How to care for and clean your jewelry

Here are some tips for taking care of your jewelry so it stays shiny and scratch-free:

~ Keep your jewelry in a safe, dry place when you are not wearing it. Do not store it in places like the bathroom or other damp areas, as it could tarnish and become damaged.

~ Avoid direct contact with water, chemicals such as soap, abrasive products, and other cleaning products.

~ Avoid impact with hard surfaces as much as possible.

~ Chlorine, detergents, oils, moisturizers, and perfumes can tarnish the pieces.

~ Do not wear your jewelry in swimming pools, hot tubs, saunas, the shower, or the bath. Take special care with thermal baths, as they can age metals because they contain sulfides and other metals.

~ For special care, clean the pieces after use with a soft cloth.

~ Gold-plated jewelry requires special care; remove it when applying hand cream, washing your hands with water and soap, or performing any activity that involves using your hands with liquids or surfaces that could easily scratch or strike the piece.

Although the plating is 3 microns thick, it can fade more easily if not properly cared for.

~ Gold-plated jewelry should be replated when necessary.

How to clean them

Over time, silver jewelry tends to darken or change color due to sulfuration, caused by particles present in the air, sweat, and chemical products such as creams and perfumes. So if your jewelry needs a little cleaning after some time, that is normal, and we will tell you how you can restore its shine in just a few steps at home.

These steps are for silver or gold pieces; gold-plated pieces are very sensitive, and it is not recommended to follow these steps.

Cleaning, step by step

Use baking soda and aluminum foil to remove tarnish.

  1. Line a container with aluminum foil, place the jewelry inside, and add a small amount of baking soda.
  2. Next, cover it with hot water.
  3. Let it sit for a few minutes, rinse it thoroughly, and dry it completely with a soft cloth.

Do not use this method on jewelry with stones, as we do not know how they may react.

If your jewelry needs a deeper cleaning or you prefer professional cleaning, you can always contact me by email. We can easily discuss all the details, and I will be delighted to professionally care for and clean your jewelry at the studio.
